Maintaining a Hydroponics System Information
All active systems will need to be maintained. This can be done by hand or automatically using the HydroGeneral. There are 2 factors that need to be monitored. Firstly pH; the pH will need to be maintained between 5.8 and 6.3, the optimum being 6.2. (See 'Guide to Nutrient' for an explanation of pH).
Secondly, the strength of the nutrient solution will need to be monitored using a suitable hand held meter. Different plants at differing stages of growth will need differing strengths of nutrient. On a hot day additional water may need to be added to the system due to high transpiration rates of the plants.
To operate your system successfully: ~Get a water analysis from your local water company to make sure you are using the nutrient formula adapted to your water (soft or hard). ~Always clean your system thoroughly between crops. ~If you have questions about your water or about the development of your crop, please don't hesitate to contact us. ~In summer, when using lights in an enclosed space, and in order to avoid extreme temperatures, you could turn your lights on at night, to take advantage of the cool air. ~Your nutrient solution should be kept as cool as possible, ideally around 18° C, do not let it exceed 24° C.
